Autumn 2011
With temperatures dropping fast I can safely say that summer is on its way out. With autumn we begin to enjoy casseroles, soups, warm fires and cuddling up on the couch.
With autumn leaves turn shades of vibrant orange, red and yellow. In the Cape we can finally say goodbye to dry, dusty gardens and welcome the greenery that is accompanied with a wet Cape winter.
April is working class’ best month after December because of all the public holidays. Do you know that we only have 18 working days in this month? A nightmare for business owners and entrepreneurs. You could just take time off and enjoy a glass of Gluwein next to the inviting fireplace at the rustic Orion Wartburg Hotel in KZN.
Or you could head out to the Garden Route and enjoy fresh Knysna oysters at the ever popular Knysna Festival. A squeeze of lemon, some freshly ground pepper, and a dash of Tabasco and let it sliiiddeee down. Go ahead, enjoy your oysters this April at the gorgeous Crawfords Guest House in Plettenberg Bay J
Wishing our Christian members a very Blessed Easter and our Jewish members, well over the fast.

The Fountains Hotel and Conference Centre
Want to hear a funny story? Yesterday, while having breakfast at the Fountains Hotel in CBD of Cape Town a Bergie came along. A Bergie is what Capetonians refer to as someone who slept on the slopes of the mountain. Today these people sleep in many other places besides the mountain.
About five or six years ago, the lower part of Cape Town was somewhat seedy. In fact, you wouldn’t wander around there after dark. During the day the area was well populated, but at night it was a different story. The man-holes on the road were slowly converted into built in cupboards for Bergies.
Previously the Fountains Hotel used to be the Medical Centre and St. Georges Mall and Adderly Street were easily accessible through the building as it was a public throughfare.
After the completion of the hotel, the area was reverted to its former glory. While having breakfast, overlooking the Adderly Street Fountains in this glorious setting, our Bergie came along, pleasantly pickled. Being under the influence, he does not notice the changes that took place since he was last here. Importantly he’s man-hole inspection cover is still where he left it five years ago. He staggers over there (which is on the periphery of this beautiful setting I’ve just mentioned).
After removing the cover, he stares down into the hole with a combination of surprise, disgust and disbelief, he says: “Kan jy dit glo??? (Can you believe it???) n Ou kannie eers n biechie leev vattie… (A person can’t even take a bit of a holiday) en dan steelie varke joe belongings!!” (and then the pigs steel your belongings!!”) “Sies Man…!!” (Sis Man…!!”) “Draai joe rug vir fyf miniete en ky wat gebee!!! Kan jy dit glo???” (Turn your back for five minutes and see what happens!!! Can you believe it!!!”)
I nearly fell off my chair laughing so much. I guess time flies by quicker than we think, but that just really made my day. Time waits for no man. So do yourself a favour; go and enjoy a fantastic breakfast or delicious buffet lunch in the centre of the most beautiful city in the world.
